The short version
- Jolly collects only what it needs to build and share your trip page.
- Only people with the link can see a Jolly.
- Guests never sign up, and Jolly never asks for their name, email or phone number.
- Organisers see how many people opened their Jolly. They never see who.
- I never sell your data.
- You can ask me to see, change or delete your data at any time.
Who runs Jolly
Jolly is run by [your full name], a sole trader based in Southwark, London, UK. I decide how your data is used, which makes me the "controller" under UK data protection law. Contact: [hello@jolly.app].
What I collect
Organisers: your first name and email when you share a Jolly, and whatever you paste or type into your trip. That can include dates, places, addresses, booking references, an emergency contact and a shared payment link. Your first name is shown to your guests. Your email isn't.
Guests: no names, emails or phone numbers. When you open a Jolly, your browser gets a random device ID. It lets Jolly count you once, remember the hearts you've added and skip the cover next time. Jolly also records whether you opened key info and whether you tapped "Tell [name] you're excited".
Payments: if you pay to keep a Jolly live or add Map, Stripe handles your card details. I never see them. I keep a record of what was bought and when.
Everyone: basic technical information like device type, pages viewed, how fast pages load and error reports, so Jolly keeps working. To stop misuse, I keep a scrambled version of your IP address for up to 30 days.
Please only add details about other people that the trip needs. If you add someone as the emergency contact, check they're happy for the group to see their number.
How I use it and why
| What | Why I'm allowed to |
|---|---|
| Build, host and share your trip page | It's the service you asked for |
| Read your pasted plans using automated tools, including AI | It's the service you asked for |
| Email organisers their edit link, payment receipts and reminders about their free link (first open, 3 hours before it pauses, when it pauses) | It's the service you asked for |
| Count opens, key info views and hearts, and show organisers the totals | It's part of the service, and organisers need it to decide whether to keep their Jolly live |
| Find places on the map | It's the service you asked for |
| Take payments | It's the service you asked for, and tax rules require records |
| Keep Jolly secure and working | It's a reasonable need to run the service |
The automated tools only organise your plans. They don't make any decisions about you. I don't use your trip content to train AI models.
Who else sees it
- People you share your link with. They see the trip page and your first name.
- A few services that help run Jolly, and only for that purpose:
- Hosting and page speed measurement: Vercel
- Database: Neon
- AI reading of pasted plans: Google
- Emails to organisers: Resend
- Place search and maps: Geoapify, using OpenStreetMap data. Only what you type into a place field, and the places in your trip, are sent. Your name, email and device aren't.
- Payments: Stripe
Some of these may store data outside the UK. Where they do, they use the standard legal safeguards UK law requires.
How long it's kept
- Trip pages: until you delete them. Otherwise they become read-only 12 months after the last trip date and are deleted 12 months after that. This applies to free and kept live Jolly pages.
- Guest device IDs, opens and hearts: deleted with the trip.
- Organiser email and first name: until you ask me to delete them, or 12 months after your last trip.
- Scrambled IP addresses, used to stop misuse: up to 30 days.
- Payment records: 6 years, because tax rules require it.
Cookies and storage
Jolly uses a small number of cookies and browser storage items:
| Name | What it does | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Organiser edit cookie | Set when you start making a Jolly. Keeps your draft yours and keeps you signed in to edit it on that phone | Essential |
| Guest device ID | Counts each guest once, remembers hearts and skips the cover on repeat visits | [Essential or consent: get advice] |
| Offline copy | Saves a kept live Jolly on your phone so it works without signal | Essential |
| Payment cookies | Set by Stripe during checkout | Essential |
There are no advertising cookies. Vercel measures how fast pages load, without cookies and without anything that identifies you.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, or object to how it's used. Email [hello@jolly.app] and I'll reply within one month. Organisers can delete a trip at any time, which removes its guest data too.
If you're unhappy with how I've handled your data, please tell me first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Age
Jolly is for people aged 18 and over.
Changes
If anything important changes, I'll update this page and email organisers.
